PML Polls: Ch. Shujaat to continue as President

ISLAMABAD, Jun 4 (APP): PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain would serve as the party head for third consecutive term, APP has learnt reliably. Well-placed party sources revealed to this scribe requesting anonymity that the party leadership had unanimously decided to reelect Chaudhry Shujaat for the party’s top slot for another term while the slot of Secretary General is yet to be decided.
Sources said Mushahid Hussain Sayed is a strong candidate for another term, however, the rebel party leader Salim Saifullah Khan is also lobbying to become Secretary General.
The election of Salim Saifullah Khan would be a major dent for the party’s dissident group as Salim Saifullah Khan was a leading player of the rebel group.
When argued that the Party’s Constitution did not allow any party President to hold the party office for third term, the source said,”the Party’s Constitution is not a final judgment. Rather, it could be amended as per aspirations of the party leaders and workers who want to see Shujaat as President for a third term,” added the source.
The source added that contrary to the gossips, the party election would be held on time – August 12 this year as per schedule. The schedule would be announced soon, added the source.
When approached for comments, Party’s Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed confirmed that the party elections would be held as per schedule on August 12 this year.
“Any party worker or leader can vie for any slot of the party and there is no restriction on anyone for competing for any slot,” he added.
The sources said the decision of postponing the party elections had enraged the party leaders and they were annoyed with the party leadership for the decision.
“This is why the party leadership has reversed its decision to postpone the party polls. Moreover, this has also been decided that the next Secretary General would be from a smaller province. In this scenario, the chances of dissident leader Salim Saifullah Khan to become Secretary General are brighter,” added the source.
